WOCA Diamond Oil Application for Bench Tops Specification

The following information is the recommended specification guidelines for the correct application of the WOCA Diamond Oil (Natural, White, Extra White) as well as the follow on maintenance and care for Bench Tops/ Tables where the WOCA Diamond Oil has been applied.

WOCA Diamond Oil – 2.5L, coverage 20-25m2/L ( American/European Oak)

WOCA Wood Cleaner – Coverage is 200m2/L (all species)

Sanding of Timber : Timber should be finish sanded to 120g.

Post Sanding Preparation : Once timber is sanded, the timber should be vacuumed and then cleaned with WOCA Wood Cleaner (consult product PDF), and allowed to dry completely prior to oil be applied.

Application of Oil : WOCA Diamond Oil is a penetrating hardening oil that must be burnished into the timber by hand, or via a rotary tool. Any excess oil on surface after burnishing must be removed. WOCA Diamond Oil will pre-harden in 4-6 hours and be fully cured in 48 hours, provided the room temperature in the application is a minimum of 18c. Application of oil in lesser temperatures is not recommended. No handling of applied surface after application for 24hours, and no exposure to liquids for 5 days after oil application. For an extra hard wearing, super smooth finish, WOCA recommends that the WOCA Patina Discs be employed when the oil is burnished into the timber.

Final Step : The morning following the application of the oil, the applied surface must be dry buffed by hand or with the same rotary tool used to burnish the oil in, this is carried out with the rotary tool and a dry White, or Red polishing pad cut to fit the face of the rotary tool. This will clear up any possible sheen inconsistencies from the application and drying, and remove any “bleedback” from natural defect within the structure of the applied surface.

Prior to Full Use : WOCA recommends that prior to the applied surface being taken into full use, the surface be cleaned once with the WOCA Oil Refresher Spray (Natural for natural or dark coloured timbers, White for White Oiled surfaces). This ensures that there is a protective layer over the Oil layer, thusly creating a situation where grit, dust, dirt…etc. is captured in the protective layer, and not in the Oil layer.

Ongoing Cleaning/Maintenance : Weekly cleaning of a WOCA Oiled Floor is conducted using the WOCA Natural Soap Spray (see product PDF for correct use). Quarterly, the WOCA Oil Refresher Spray should be used in lieu of the Natural Soap Spray during a regular scheduled cleaning. WOCA recommends an annual maintenance oiling of the applied surface with WOCA Maintenance Oil or Maintenance Paste to ensure nourishment of the timber and preservation of the desired aesthetic. Depending on use and care, this annual oiling can be extended beyond the typical 12-18 month window by keeping a weekly regimen of cleaning the applied surface with the WOCA Natural Soap Spray, and quarterly use of the Oil Refresher Spray.

Method – Works should be carried out in a well ventilated space at 18c or better!

  1. Sand timber to 120g.
  2. Be sure to polish oil into reverse side first to ensure proper “balance” in the timber.
  3. Clean application surface with WOCA Wood Cleaner in a 1:40 dilution with lukewarm water. Keep a second bucket of clean rinse water on hand to rinse out cleaning rag.
  4. Allow cleaned surface to dry 8 hours.
  5. Roll oil out in sections at a time using hand held mohair roller. Allow oil to saturate for 5-10 mins prior to polishing.
  6. Polish oil into surface using hand held orbital tool, with Red or Beige polishing pad cut to fit the face of the orbital tool. Polish oil into surface until all visible oil is gone. Remove any excess oil from surface with cotton cloth.
  7. Always work in sections at a time, and overlap the sections to ensure no missed areas, or overlap marks.
  8. Repeat steps 5 & 6 until entire application is oiled and polished, all excess oil removed.
  9. Do not handle applied surface for 24 hours, no exposure to liquids for 5-7 days.
